Aaliyah Umm Ibrahim

If you can't be good at anything else, you can always become an example of how not to do things. I'm a blogger, a moderator and a mum (which means I got three jobs and ain't getting paid for none). You can read my blog at: http://www.sunnapolku.com/proselyytti - what would be the winner of the "most annoying blog of the year"-award, if there was one.

Apparently the divorce rate in this country is over 50%. Other European and North American countries seem to give the same sort of numbers. People give all sorts of explanations as to why this is so; most would say they got married for the first time too quickly, without knowing their partner well enough, or that things changed when kids came along and there was not enough time to take care of the relationship, there are explanations involving money, work and infidelity.

Becoming "the other people"

Becoming "the other people"

Thu, Sep 29, 2011

There are all these things that in our heads only happen to other people. Things like car accidents, mysterious diseases and serious, peculiar accidents happen, and we all know they do, but yet we exclude ourselves from being "the other people" subconsciously. However, no one sees themselves as being one of "the other people" and that's why, in the face of a trial, we often find ourselves confused and scared.

Back to the basics – some prophetic advice on raising children

Back to the basics – some prophetic advice on raising children

What we find in Islam is truly a complete way of life. It covers everything, from religious rituals to spiritual advancement and from to marrying to child-raising. However we often tend to neglect these guidelines by referring to the changing of the times, the excess amount of fitna that our children are constantly surrounded by and some go to the extent of claiming these guidelines are old fashioned. We rather turn to modern day child-raising advisors, books and theories, than to the very thing that should define us as people, i.e. the deen (faith).

How to be a mother, I haven’t got a clue. It’s this or that or the other, I’m certain that is true.

Parenting consists of a series of awkward moments. We all know the usual bunch of uncomfortable questions, like “where do babies come from?” (and you might think, especially if your kids haven’t asked you yet, that it’s a piece of cake to answer to… well, it’s not) but what happens when a child gets fixated on a subject that very closely relates to a childhood (or adulthood) trauma, dilemma or a fixation of your own?
