Nafisa Anvar

Originally from India, but currently living in Melbourne, I go to Minaret College as a secondary student (Year 7, as of 2011). I live with my parents, brother and sister. An interesting fact you should know about me? I've lived around the world....well, almost if you count India, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia and Australia as 'around the world'.

By the will of Allah, I am memorizing the Qur'an and am nearing closer to finishing it, Alhamdulillah. I enjoy reading, baking and writing a lot. I also enjoy a few sports such as netball, tennis, badminton and soccer.

Aaila magazine has been my first opportunity to publish my work anywhere and I am thankful to Allah for giving me this chance. My goal and dream is to finish memorizing the Quran, get my work recognized in as many places as possible and publish my first novel, all as soon as I can, Insha-Allah.

Snowflakes and grains of sand

Snowflakes and grains of sand

Tue, Oct 04, 2011

A single, lonely snowflake is drifting down from the sky somewhere in the world. Its beautiful pattern is unique – there never had been and never will be a pattern like that ever again. On the other side of the world, someone is walking on sand. Unbeknownst to them, underneath their feet is a gigantic miracle in itself. A million, billion, trillion grains of sand tremble – all are, yet again, unique and different.

'Hijab - it's not about people'

'Hijab - it's not about people'

You may feel that everywhere you go; people are staring at you, laughing at you. But it is all part of the test that is this life. We shouldn't feel this way - it is Allah's command and that's all we care.

Living Ramadan

Living Ramadan

Mon, Jul 25, 2011

The Imam nods in affirmative. People stand up as one. A lot of hugging and talking ensues. A sister next to me plucks me off the ground and says solemnly, but with obvious happiness, "Ramadan Mubarak!" Yes, dear friend, Ramadan has officially begun.

MUHAMMAD (pbuh), Mercy to mankind

MUHAMMAD (pbuh), Mercy to mankind

Tue, Jan 31, 2012

A long time ago, a righteous man left his wife and son in a barren desert. A long time ago, that wife was alone, without food or drink. A long time ago, Allah sent them people from among the Arabs. A long time ago, a city by the name of Mecca formed near the old Ka'bah. A long time ago, the son grew up with the Arabs and married one of them. Now, we know this as the story of Ibrahim (as), his wife Hajar (as) and their son Ismaeel (as).
